We are a group of about 30 people who share belief in worker rights and social justice. The choir was formed with an Art in Working Life grant in collaboration with the ACTU.  Today, most members are current or retired union members or align with the social justice principles of the union movement. In our work we collaborate with lots of community groups such as peace, refugee, human rights and environmental organisations.

We also network and perform with other community choirs. We hope you will enjoy singing and performing as you express yourself in song and enhance your musical skills.

No audition is required to join the choir.

Our musical director will help you find the right section to join – soprano, alto, tenor or bass – and a member from your section will help you settle in.

BEING A CHOIR MEMBER

We have weekly rehearsals. We are a very active choir and will invite you to perform at demonstrations, concerts and events about once a month. We also have projects that might involve the development and presentation of a theatre-like concert.

Singers pay membership subscriptions of $70 for a 10 week term: 4 x 10 weeks each year = $280 annually. Concessions can be negotiated.

HOW WE RUN THE CHOIR

The Unions Choir is now a self-funded community group with an annually elected committee of members. We aim to model a commitment to democratic principles, collaborative practice, human rights and social justice within the choir itself.

REHEARSALS

Thursdays from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm at LEVEL 2 of the QCU Building at 16 Peel Street (corner of Peel and Grey), South Brisbane.

Members can park under the building from 6pm or there are many public transport options.
